Dr. B. Maesen

Dr B. Maesen studied medicine at the University of Antwerp, where he went on to conduct research on ischaemia/reperfusion injury following his graduation. Afterwards he moved to Maastricht University, where he conducted research into the various aspects of the substrate of atrial fibrillation under Professor Ulrich Schotten. In late 2011, he started training in Maastricht as a cardiothoracic surgeon. In 2015, he completed his Ph.D. at Maastricht University with his dissertation titled "Structure-Function Relationship of Atrial Fibrillation Waves in Goat and Man". In addition to general cardiothoracic procedures, his practice focusses on minimally invasive surgery (hybrid AF ablation, arrhythmia surgery and transcatheter heart valve interventions). He is an active member of the Arrhythmia Taskforce of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS).
