Na haar studie Geneeskunde in Utrecht en de opleiding interne geneeskunde in Apeldoorn en Eindhoven (Catharina ziekenhuis) werkte zij als algemeen internist inhet MUMC+en in het Atrium ziekenhuis in Heerlen.

Sinds 1998 werkt zij als consulent palliatieve zorg in het MUMC+ en sinds 2004 ook als pijnspecialist oncologische pijn.

Zij behaalde in 2000 het “Diploma in Palliative Care” en promoveerde in 2009 op een proefschrift over symptomen bij patiënten met kanker.
