After studying kinesiology at the Free University of Amsterdam, René ten Broeke completed medical studies in 1987, also at the Free University. Afterwards he trained as an orthopedic surgeon at Maastricht and Heerlen, and then followed the appointment in the orthopedic staff of the AZM in 1997.
He specializes in hip and pelvic surgery as well as in major trauma. As a member of the education committee of the Dutch Orthopaedic Association, he is involved in teaching the course assistants in the Netherlands. Besides different memberships in scientific societies, among others, he holds directorships of the Dutch Hip Society (hip Working Group NOV) and the Limburg Trauma Society.
His research work focuses mainly on design development and quality testing of hip prostheses.
Since 2008 he holds the position of chef de clinique, and in 2010 he was appointed acting head of the orthopedics department.
