Dr. N. Bauer heeft in de periode 1998-2002 de opleiding tot oogarts gevolgd in het Academisch Ziekenhuis Maastricht en is sinds 2002 staflid op deze afdeling.
In 1999 is dr. Bauer gepromoveerd te Maastricht op zijn proefschrift "Potential applications of confocal Raman spectroscopy in ophthalmology”.
