The azM Supervisory Board oversees the affairs of the Maastricht hospital in general and of the azM Board of Directors in particular. The Supervisory Board appoints the members of the azM Board of Directors and evaluates their performance.

The UM Supervisory Board oversees the general affairs of the university (including the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences) and the policy of the UM Executive Board. In addition to its supervisory role, the UM Supervisory Board plays an important role as a sounding board and advisor to the UM Executive Board.

The azM Supervisory Board consists of the following members:

Prof. Roger Dassen was appointed chairman of the Supervisory Board on January 1st 2020 (he has been a member of the Supervisory Board since October 1st 2019). Prof Dassen is currently Chief Financial Officer at chip-machine manufacturer ASML in Veldhoven. He is also a member of the Supervisory Board at De Nederlandsche Bank [independent central bank DNB] and Professor Auditing at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam [a Dutch university].

Mr. Goedmakers co-owns the family-run business Vebego International, where he was chairman of the board until 2005. As a businessman, Mr. Goedmakers is an experienced developer of people-intensive organizations and forward-thinking innovation. Since 2005, Mr. Goedmakers has been active as a supervisory director, mainly for public-sector organizations.

Mr. Van Kasteren is a partner at KPMG N.V. Amsterdam.

Ir. Ing. C. Moonen is currently a member of the Senate [Eerste Kamer] of the Dutch Parliament (the States General) for political party D66 and chairman at Dutch branch organisation Koninklijke NLingenieurs. She is also a member of the Executive Committee of Dutch employer’s federation VNO-NCW.

Prof. dr. M. de Smet is currently medical and scientific manager and division president of the Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine Division at University Medical Center Utrecht. She is also active at management level. The appointment of Professor De Smet will contribute to the substantive knowledge desired by the Supervisory Board when it comes to the quality and safety of patient care.
