Practical information

Overnight stays for relatives

Relatives of patients who are seriously ill (and who must visit the hospital outside normal visiting hours) and family members who come from far away can stay nearby in the hospital’s family accommodations.

Family accommodations at the Aubeldomein

Family Accommodations Aubel Domain

The family accommodations are located at the Aubeldomein, which is about a five minute walk from the Maastricht UMC+. The property is managed by the Facility Management Office of the hospital. The accommodations have a private living room/bedroom, and a common (fully equipped) kitchen and shower facility that is shared with up to three other guests. The family accommodations are cleaned daily (except on weekends). This accommodation option is intended for persons over 16, as the property is not suitable for children.

Reservations can be made on weekdays between 15.00 and 16.00 at the Facility Management Department on the first floor, near the hospital information desk (at the ‘Poliplein’, route 6). This is also where you can pick up the keys. Reservations for an overnight stay can be made one day before the admission of the patient. The costs of the room are €25 per night for one person and €30 per night for two people. You can pay by debit card or cash. Relatives staying at the family accommodations can also purchase a parking pass from Facility Management for €15 per week.

It is possible that the cost of staying at a family accommodation will be reimbursed by your health insurance. You can request that Facility Management to provide you with a statement of the costs to submit to your insurance.

Staying overnight at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

It is possibly to stay overnight with your child in the intensive care unit (PICU). It is not possible to add a bed, but you can sleep on a lawn chair. If you are interested in staying overnight, you can indicate this during the intake.

How to reach the Facility Management Department

  • Opening hours: weekdays from 08.30 to 17.00.
  • Phone: 043-387 52 52.

After 17.00 and on weekends, the keys of previously booked family accommodations can be picked up at the security post in the atrium on the first floor. You cannot apply for family accommodation at the security post. The keys you pick up during the weekend at the security post are valid only until Monday at 11.00.

Staff restaurant

Relatives staying at the family accommodations can eat at the hospital’s staff restaurant for a fee. You can do this by requesting a temporary access pass for the restaurant at the Facility Management Department.

  • The staff restaurant is open from 09.00 to 19.00.
  • Hot meals are available from 11.30 to 14.00 and from 16.30 to 18.00.
  • Due to the crowds in the staff restaurant, you can only be served lunch after 13.15.
  • The staff restaurant is not accessible to patients.
  • You can pay with the chip on your debit card (chipknip). You can reload this at the staff restaurant.
  • You will be charged the staff price plus a 15% surcharge for your meal.
  • You can also get a 10% discount at the visitor’s restaurant if you show your pass at the entrance.

Certain parents and siblings of children who are admitted to the Maastricht UMC+ are allowed to stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Maastricht. The house is within three minute’s walking distance of the hospital and offers families a ‘temporary home’. In addition to rest and security, you will find support from other parents, volunteers and the management team.

The Ronald McDonald House has a cosy common room, a kitchen with several cooking units (where you can cook yourself), a garden and a roof terrace. Additionally, there are seventeen comfortable guest rooms where you and your other children can stay. This allows your family to remain somewhat intact while you stay near your sick child.
