Over

I describe myself as a researcher who builds bridges between the technical field of non-invasive imaging and the implementation in clinical and metabolic research. Specifically, I work on methodological innovation in the field of MRS from a physiological interest in advancing our understanding of insulin resistance and diabetes. I have developed and applied non-invasive magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) techniques to investigate the etiology of insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes. After completing a double degree at ETH Zurich, Switzerland (Biochemistry and Human Nutrition), I pursued my doctoral training at the Department of Radiology at Maastricht University. Here, I got intrigued by the broad and unique possibilities of MRS to advance our understanding of metabolism. Presently, I am appointed as associate professor and am involved in many multidisciplinary projects. I was awarded by an NWO-veni and NWO-vidi grant and an ERC-starting grant, in which I focus on non-invasive detection of NAD+ and NADH in muscle.
