The Maastricht University Medical Centre+/azM [academisch ziekenhuis Maastricht] has two governing bodies: the Maastricht UMC + Board of Directors and the azM Supervisory Board.
The Maastricht UMC+ Board of Directors consists of the azM Board of Directors and the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. The Maastricht UMC+ Board of Directors focuses on strategic issues and responding to the changing environment of the Maastricht UMC+. The duties and responsibilities of the Board of Directors are outlined in the Board regulations.

The azM Supervisory Board oversees the affairs of the Maastricht hospital in general and of the azM Board of Directors in particular. The Supervisory Board appoints the members of the Board of Directors and evaluates their performance. The UM Supervisory Board oversees the general affairs of the university (including the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences) as well as the policy of the UM Executive Board. In addition its supervisory role, the UM Supervisory Board plays an important role as a sounding board and adviser to the UM Executive Board.

In addition to the managerial boards, there are several representative councils that advise the Maastricht UMC+ Board of Directors on the adoption and implementation of policy.
